Who is Jessica?

Jessica McLeod-Yu is an artist, 2D animator and Social Scientist based in Canberra, Australia.
She is a chill and adventurous person, and is known her trademark blue and pink hair and punk-rock fashion, and goes by the artist name: Rocket Child (and can be found on social media as @rocketchildart).
Her art style is bright, energetic and youthful, and draws inspiration from: anime and comic culture, rock music, street fashion, architecture, and her travel experience.
Despite the youthful appeal, Jessica’s works are emotionally and thematically sophisticated. Jessica’s specialty lies in aesthetics, where she reduces complex abstract ideas into easier-to-digest formats using symbolism, making them more accessible to wider audiences despite differences in age or language.
Jessica is a multi-award-winning artist whose animations have screened in festivals around the world. (Some previous projects include themes such as: mental health, Amputee awareness, food science, and LGBTQIA+ advocacy. )
Jessica is currently studying a Master of International Relations at the Australian National University and aims to incorporate her artistic identity and career into the Foreign Affairs industry through cultural diplomacy.
In addition to English, Jessica speaks Spanish fluently, as well as intermediate Japanese and French.
In 2020, her hand-drawn animated music video, “Princess and the Honeybee“, which was commissioned by the American musician, “SONiA Dissapear Fear“, was nominated for a Grammy for Best Music Video.
